Blind Date (British Game Show)
''Blind Date'' is a British dating game show first produced by London Weekend Television. An unscreened pilot was made with comic Duncan Norvelle as presenter but it was eventually hosted by Cilla Black, who already hosted the LWT series '' Surprise Surprise''. ''Blind Date'' originally ran on Saturday nights from 30 November 1985 to 31 May 2003 on ITV. The show returned in 2017 on Channel 5. The new series began airing on 17 June 2017 in its usual Saturday night slot and is produced by So Television, Olga TV and Stellify Media, a firm part-owned by Sony Pictures Television. Paul O'Grady presented the revived series. Melanie Sykes became the new voice of the show, taking over the role most famously held by Graham Skidmore in the original series. On 30 June 2025, it was announced that the series was to be rebooted again and this time would be aired on Disney+. Dating game shows are game shows that incorporates a variety of matchmaking systems and services in the form of a game with clear rules. Human matchmaking is involved only in selecting the game's contestants, who are usually selected more for the amusement value than any concern for their happiness or compatibility. Bognor Regis (), also known as Bognor, is a town and seaside resort in West Sussex on the south coast of England, south-west of London, west of Brighton, south-east of Chichester and east of Portsmouth. ''The Dating Game'' is an American television game show that first aired on December 20, 1965, and was the first of many shows created and packaged by Chuck Barris from the 1960s through the 1980s. ABC dropped the show on July 6, 1973, but it continued in syndication for another year (1973–1974) as ''The New Dating Game''. The program was revived four additional times afterward, with the first from 1978 to 1980 as ''The All-New Dating Game'', the second from 1986 to 1989, and the third from 1996 to 1999 all airing in syndication, while the fourth revival aired a single season on ABC in 2021. Duncan A. Norvelle (2 April 1958 – 12 December 2024) was an English comedian in the variety tradition, who appeared on British television from the early 1980s. He was often referred to as Duncan "Chase me" Norvelle, stemming from his catchphrase "Chase me!" His act was based on appearing to be a stereotypical camp homosexual despite being heterosexual and married three times. Early life and career Norvelle was born in Hoton, near Loughborough, in Leicestershire. ''Take Me Out'' was a dating game show that was presented by comedian Paddy McGuinness.
